![]() ![]() A lot of people talk about the dark years being 2000 - 2005 and I feel like that’s a disservice to the team in 2002 because that was a good football team. Obviously LJ was a heisman finalist as well so that added some excitement to it. ![]() Played them tight anyway and obviously they went on to win the title and we lost in a close but ugly bowl game vs Auburn. Lost very close questionable games against iowa and Michigan, could have very easily been going into the Ohio state game undefeated. Just to throw out another season, 2002… 9-4 and I still think we had a really good team that was almost great. Bounced back after that, and overall I think that team would’ve had a good shot against anyone above us that year. There are other seasons that were better overall but feel worse because of "what could've been", like 2006 or 2016, but 2015 was the most fun because of how fast the program felt turned around, and how our expectations were still that this was a turnaround project and we didn't have to win it all in year 0.Īgreed, that team felt like it had something special, and then the 4th quarter against OSU it all came crashing down and then obviously didn’t rebound immediately next week against MSU. ![]() The OSU game I couldn't even be mad or sad, I just laughed and hung out with some nice buckeye fans at the game after most of the student section left early- the feeling was that we weren't there this year but Harbaugh was for sure The Guy and we were in for some fun games against that team down south in the coming years. Trouble with the Snap brought us back down to Earth, we were on the rise but still had a ways to go. The last two home games I attended as a student were MSU/Trouble with the Snap, which was not a fun game, and OSU who beat us by like 4 touchdowns, but honestly, it was a fun season. We then went on to wrack up 10 wins the year after not even going bowling, including 3 consecutive shut outs which was hype as fuck. In the season opener I was at an undergrad bar where some guy kept buying shots for the entire bar. We went from a team I was embarrassed to be associated with, to a respectable team overnight, and he didn't even have a recruiting cycle that year because he was hired so late. It was my last year with season tickets as a student, and after the previous three years I witnessed with Hoke, I was hyped as fuck to have Harbaugh come home, especially after getting clowned on and told that he would "never leave the NFL/ his wife loves the Bay Area" etc. Three 1st round draft picks in all (Terrell being the other and the worst of the 3).Ģ015 Michigan. Graduated Hutchinson and Backus that year. Those 3 losses came by a combined 7 points, upset #12 OSU in Columbus, and won the Citrus Bowl over #20 Auburn. Lost to Drew Brees' best Purdue team, and that random stretch NW team that put up almost 40PPG (had leads in the 4th quarter of all 3 losses). The old school PA roll out, throw back across the field was in vogue that year and Henson could throw it over them mountains. Between him, Terrell, Walker, and Thomas the offense was fun (but still coordinated by a Michigan OC so kind of annoying). Then Henson came back and the fun really started. He went like 10/30 or something and Michigan lost by 3. Henson was hurt to start the season and missed the first 3 games so they had to travel to top 15 UCLA with true freshman (and giant moose) John Navarre starting. Came off the final Brady year and beating Bama in the Orange Bowl (lost 2 games by 9 points total). I was 10 so might be a bit of childhood fond memories, but I still remember bits and pieces of it and the excitement around it.
